In the many commercial posters which he designed, Bouisset's illustrative style is charming and rather realistic. But Bouisset was in fact a very versatile artist. For the Salon des Cent, in 1899, his entry was a floral, purely Art Nouveau piece. The image in this poster, clearly from a much earlier period, is so heavily inspired by the works of Jules Cheret that it can be considered as a tribute to the father of the poster. The colors, the movement, the composition with the girl in the foreground and dancers in the background are heavily influenced by Cheret's posters for festive events. The style was so effective that it makes for a very appealing image for what appears to be a masked ball (a very popular kind of event in the last years of the 19th century). Previously unrecorded.
